Cashew Hill is an out of the ordinary place, just minutes by foot, from the center of Puerto Viejo. Walk up the path by the soccer field and find a sanctuary like no other. Glorious gardens with tropical plants of every type, birds of every color, butterflies, sloths, kinkajous, ocean views and ocean breezes.

Our wildlife friends make Cashew Hill their home.
Cashew Hill welcomes families, singles, couples and people of all ages. This is not, however, a party place. This is a tranquilo place, with partying available 5 minutes away in town. Enjoy quiet evenings in a jungle setting. Or, take a short walk and dance to live music in town. We want our guests to be able to turn in early to enjoy splendid mornings and abundant birds. If you are looking for relaxation and comfort with entertainment close by, this is the place.
Wi-Fi available: Cashew Hill offers wireless 2mb ADSL service. This service is reliable and we have a back-up power system for it.
Cozy cottages, designed with comfort and harmony in mind, await you. Cashew Hill has seven cottages with fully equipped kitchens, sleeping rooms, living areas, pleasing bathrooms, wireless internet, parking and security.

Canopy Cottage: a one-story, two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage looking out into the jungle canopy. Sleeps 2 - 6. Each bedroom contains a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. These cannot be moved around. This is a split level house.
Salsa Brava Cottage: a two-story, one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage with a view of the famous Salsa Brava surfing wave. Sleeps 1 - 3. The bedroom contains a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. The bedroom is upstairs.
Playa Negra Cottage: a one-story, two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage with a view of Playa Negra. Sleeps 2 - 6. Each bedroom contains a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. These cannot be moved around. This is a one level house.
Great Potoo Cottage: a one-story, two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage with a laurel tree where the Great Potoo loves to sit, just outside. Sleeps 2 - 6. Each bedroom contains a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. These cannot be moved around. This is a one level house.
Kinkajou Cottage: a two-story, one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage where you are bound to hear the kinkajous chattering in the trees. Sleeps 1 - 3. The bedroom contains a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. The bedroom is upstairs.
Sloth Cottage: a two-story, one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage where you will likely see sloths climbing, in nearby trees. Sleeps 1 - 3. The bedroom contains a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. The bedroom is downstairs.
Todo Bien Cottage: is a two-story, three-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage with plenty of space for groups and large family gatherings. Sleeps 2 - 8. The two upstairs bedrooms each contain a matrimonial bed and an individual bed. The downstairs bedroom contains only a matrimonial bed. These beds cannot be moved around.
Rent a cottage for a week, a month or a few months and enjoy being in a quiet, convenient location, with only a brief five-minute walk to beaches, restaurants and shops. All of our vacation rental bungalows were newly constructed or remodeled in late 2006 / 2007.
Cashew Hill is a fair trade employer, meaning we pay our Costa Rican employees a living wage plus benefits.
Cashew Hill is environmentally friendly. We recycle, compost, use green products to clean, use unbleached paper products, wash linens upon request (saving large amounts of water and energy), use fluorescent bulbs wherever possible, and conserve resources always.
We, and Puerto Viejo, are vegan and vegetarian friendly!!
Cashew Hill has a state of the art water treatment system. Our system, made by Starline International, includes filters and ultraviolet light to make sure all of our water is bacteria and parasite free. This covers water in our showers, sinks, everywhere water flows. You do not need to purchase bottled water, just bring a container to re-fill here.

Cashew Hill is family-owned and family-operated. Erich & Wendy Strebe wanted to relocate to Costa Rica, and Cashew Hill is the culmination of their dream. Their children, Emily (adult), Erik (adult), Elliot (teenager) & Zeke (teenager) have helped realize their vision. Their dogs, Elvis, Ozzie (English Mastiffs) and Marley (Min. Pin.), are part of the security team. Their cat, Stevie, is on mouse patrol.
